This paper presents the State of Agency construct as a methodological alternative for analyzing teachers’ actions based on the Theory of Mediated Action by James V. Wertsch. This approach considers the irreducible tension agent-mediational means (agency) demonstrated from the materiality of mediational means to set the state condition. The construct, used as the basic structure for content analysis, determines the way of clipping for the analytic corpus considering the materiality of agency, and its categorization favors the representation of transitional relations between the states. The approach could support descriptive and explicative interpretations of the teacher’s action considering his sociocultural aspects from the natural work environment.
