Abstract

This article aims to understand the risk perception and acceptability of urine-derived struvite as an agricultural fertilizer in small family farmers representing the municipality of Domingos Martins (Espírito Santo, Brazil). In this context, a qualitative study was performed, with data collection from a semi-structured mixed questionnaire. For data analysis, we used the Content Analysis technique proposed by Bardin (2011), Tobar and Yalour (2004), which allowed the creation of analytical categories and subcategories. The results indicated that few farmers believe that the use of human urine in agriculture presents health risks. In addition, most said there are no risks since they resemble human to bovine urine. Acceptance of struvite agricultural use, especially derived from cow urine, corresponded to (36%) of the interviewed farmers' preference.
